Six Farm Hazardous Waste Collection days will be held over the coming weeks including one in Clare on Wednesday, 12th November.
This initiative continues to progress hazardous waste management in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (NHWMP) 2021-2027. It builds on the success of the 2024 trial collection days, which collected 95,000kg of hazardous waste from approximately 600 farms. The collection days are being supported through strengthened cooperation with stakeholders in the veterinary medicine and plant protection product sectors.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon TD said: “I am delighted to announce that a further six Farm Hazardous Waste Collection days will take place throughout the country in the coming weeks building on the success of the trial collection days in 2024. I encourage farmers across all farm enterprises to avail of this service and to dispose of any hazardous waste which may be on their farms.
The removal of such waste from farms ensures compliance with legislation and reduces possible biosecurity, environmental or human health risks.”
Details on the collection days can be found on Farm Hazardous Waste Collections 2025.
The Clare event will take place at Ennis Mart, Quin Rd, Ennis on Wednesday, 12th November between 9am and 4pm.
Minister Heydon added that: “In parallel with the roll out of further collection days, my Department continues to work closely with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment and other members of the National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (NHWMP) Working Group on appropriate regulatory developments regarding hazardous waste management via Extended Producer Responsibly (EPR) schemes”.
Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, Alan Dillon TD added: “Finding a suitable outlet for disposing of various hazardous waste items can be difficult for many households, including farm households, so I am delighted to have this opportunity to work with my colleague Minister Heydon to facilitate the collection of such waste materials at these six locations this year through provision of funding from the Circular Economy Fund.
In addition to these six collection days my Department have also provided funding to the local authority sector, again from the Circular Economy Fund, to facilitate household hazardous waste collection days at eleven other locations throughout the State. I expect that similar levels of funding will be provided in 2026 to ensure that households and farms will continue to be provided with safe and convenient outlets to dispose of their household hazardous waste.”

The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s), National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (NHWMP) for the period 2021 to 2027 includes a recommendation for the establishment of nationwide collection and transfer of farm hazardous wastes.
As members of the National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (NHWMP) Working Group, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE) continue to work with other members of group on appropriate regulatory developments regarding hazardous waste management including potential extended producer responsibly (EPR) schemes.
In the meantime, work has progressed at national level on trial projects for domestic hazardous waste and farm hazardous waste collections.
