Clare FM has scooped three awards at the most prestigious awards ceremony in Irish radio.
The county’s most popular radio station beat off stiff competition from national and local competitors to take Gold at the 2017 IMRO Awards for their coverage of the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016.
The station also received a silver award in the Local Station of the Year category while there was also success for the news team, taking bronze in the Best News Story section for their coverage of a tragedy in Kilkee.
The IMRO awards (formally PPI’s) are recognised as the “Oscars” in the Irish radio industry. The event which was held in the Lyrath Hotel in Kilkenny on Friday, played host to over 700 people from all sectors of the radio industry throughout the island of Ireland.
Clare FM has enjoyed much success down through the years at the awards, however last Fridays accolades were the largest single haul for the Station.

Commenting on the wins, Susan Murphy Clare FM’s General Manager said: “It was particularly satisfying to finally see our coverage of Traditional Irish Music recognised. It made it very much an all-inclusive award as everyone in the Station played a part in the coverage as well as the many musicians who performed, so it’s a recognition of the rich culture we have in the County that we try and celebrate every day.
Our newsroom continue to fly the flag in terms of news coverage, News story is a very hotly contested category so to take home a bronze was wonderful and then to take the silver for Local Station when you are up against all of the local stations across the island of Ireland was the cherry on top. A huge thank you to our listeners, and our advertisers who have been so generous in their applause. They see it as we do, in that we are flying the flag for Co Clare and very proud to do so,” Ms Murphy added.
