Persistent dumping on rural stretches of Co. Clare is a health hazard and a blight on the landscape.
That’s according to Aontú Clare Representative, June Dillon who says she was horrified to come across the discarded carcasses of two or more animals thrown beside piles of rubbish dumped in Kilmurry McMahon.
She says “This road network is very rural, so people have to deliberately come off the N68 to dump rubbish. I’ll never get used to the sight of rubbish strewn around but I was absolutely horrified to see the carcasses of a number of dead animals. It was very distressing to see and I’m sure that most people would feel the same.”
“I contacted the Environmental section of Clare County Council who promptly dispatched its waste management section to arrange removal of the carcasses and rubbish.”
It is clearly a horrible sight and could potentially spread disease. Clare County Council highlighted that this illegal dumping of animal remains is only one of many that has occurred in the last number of weeks.
“I really feel we need more vigilance around this and I am urging Clare County Council to install cameras in littering blackspots in a bid to catch these indiscriminate and anti-social dumpers and also to act as a deterrent however, GDPR remains an issue on the use of CCTV cameras and would probably move the problem elsewhere”.
