A memorial cycling event will be held on March 11th to remember Limerick man Des Butler and to raised funds for the Headway Ireland charity.
Des, from Caherdavin in Limerick, was an active and well loved member of the Hub Cycling Club which is based at Coonagh Cross on the outskirts of Limerick City. He died tragically while cycling near Bunratty almost a year ago.
To remember Des and support a local and national charity, The Hub Cycling Club has organised the Des Butler Memorial Cycle. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Headway Ireland.

Located at the Hub Bike for Life shop, Coonagh Cross Limerick, The Hub Cycling Club is a new cycling club in Limerick.
With over 60 members and growing, the club caters for all levels of rider, from beginner to the experienced racer. Members are drawn from all walks of life and all levels of fitness.
A spokesman said: “2017 was a terrible year for cyclists on Irish roads with 15 people loosing their lives. Our cycling club was touched by this tragic loss of life when our friend and club mate, Des Bulter lost his life while out training during late March 2017.”
“Des never let a long spin or hill climb get in the way of a good laugh, motivating fellow riders onward and upward. Des died tragically while cycling just 12 months ago and is sorely missed by his club,” the spokesman added.
The Des Butler Memorial Cycle will take place on March 11th. It will begin at the Hub Bike for Life shop at Coonagh Cross at 10am.
The 60km cycle is suitable for all levels of cyclist, but participants must be over 16 years of ag and helmets are compulsory. The cycle is fully supported with a lead car and broom wagon. A BBQ will be held for all participants back at the Hub, once the event is finished.
Registration is €25 for non-Cycling Ireland members and €20 for Cycling Ireland members.
Registration is available on line now via event master, at the Hub bike shop or on the morning of the event. Early registration is recommended.
