The airline, which is the international arm of low coast airlines Norwegian, is based in Ireland having received its operating licence and AOC her in February 2013.

It was announced last September that the company will commence a new service to Boston from Cork from May but these plans have been grounded while the airline awaits a decision from the US department of transportation (DoT) on a foreign carrier licence application which was first lodged two years ago.

It’s also understood, but not publicised, that Shannon has also secured a deal with Norwegian Air International for fly to Boston
