Customs Officers make seizures in Shannon and Foynes

Revenue officers based at Shannon Airport seized 1 kg of herbal cannabis yesterday, the fourth such detection at the airport this month.

The illicit drugs, uncovered as a result of risk profiling, have an estimated value of €20,000 and were discovered in parcels originating in the USA and destined for an address in Co. Cork.

Separately, as a part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers based at Shannon Airport seized 26,000 cigarettes during a search of a ship at Foynes Port, Co. Limerick. The cigarettes, branded ‘L & M’, have a retail value of €20,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €16,000.

Investigations into all of these seizures are ongoing.

Yesterday’s seizure was the fourth at Shannon Airport this month.

On January 19th, Revenue Customs Officers uncovered 2.5 kgs of herbal cannabis.

The illicit drugs were discovered as a result of risk profiling and have been estimated to be worth €50,000. The cannabis was found in parcels that originated in the United States and destined for an address in Tipperary.

Earlier this month, Revenue officers at Shannon Airport seized 4.5kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €90,000.

Also at Shannon Airport, officers seized 3kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €60,000. The drugs were discovered in parcels also originating in the USA and destined for addresses in Counties Limerick, Cork and Tipperary.
