The Galway RNLI inshore lifeboat (ILB) was tasked this afternoon to an area off the Clare coast where it was reported that a boat with five people on board had broken down and was adrift.
The volunteer crew was tasked at around 12.15pm by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.
The Coast Guard had received a report that the 7m rigid inflatable boat (RIB) had broken down between Ballyvaughan and Blackhead in North Clare.
Sea conditions in Galway Bay were reported to be good and the lifeboat was able to make good time reaching the casualty vessel. On arrival at the location, the RNLI crew found that the boat had been taken under tow by another vessel which was in the area at the time.
The crew carried out an assessment of the situation to ensure everything was under control and remained on scene by to escort both boats into Ballyvaughan harbour where the occupants were able to get back to shore safely.
