A cruiser with two people on board, reported to be in difficulty on Lough Derg, has been towed to safety by the Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard.
The volunteer team was tasked at around 12.35pm by watch officers at the Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.
It had been reported that a 29ft cruiser with two persons on board had lost engine power off Gortmore Point close to Terryglass at the northern end of the lake.
A Killaloe Coast Guard boat crew launched from their base at Pier Head Killaloe and made their way to the location in a southerly force 3 to 4 wind. The crew reached the vessel shortly after 1.00pm an a member was transferred on board. The two occupants on board were found to be safe and well.
The casualty vessel was taken on tow back to Terryglass Harbour where it was safely moored at 1:45pm.
