Update:
Thursday 3.05pm – While rain is falling in many parts of the county areas of high ground have experience heavy falls of snow.
Clare County Council crews battled for several hours to clear snow from one of the county’s busiest routes. Corkscrew Hill on the N67 Lisdoonvarna to Ballyvaughan road was left impassable as a result of heavy snowfall. The effort to clear the route was described as ‘slow-going’.
Council crews, including a snow plough, were deployed to make the area safe as the local authority warned people to avoid the area. The route was reopened again around 3.00pm however the council warned of possible worse conditions later.
Snow has begun to fall again in the area so caution is urged.
*A collision on the N67 near Kilshanny has been cleared.
Wednesday 8.55am – There were heavy snow and hail fails across the county overnight. Road conditions are reported as dangerous in many parts of Clare. Some minor collisions have been reported in areas including Ballynacally, Bodyke and Feakle. There no reports on injuries.
Caution is urged. Please drive with care.
Tuesday 11.10pm – A flight from Stansted to Cork diverted to Shannon because of snow and slush on the runway at Cork. Flights at Shannon have not been affected.
Tuesday 5.15pm – Clare saw some heavy snow and hail showers this afternoon. Some minor collisions have been reported. Caution while driving is urged especially tonight and over the coming days.

Tuesday 11.00am – Very cold this week with showers of hail, sleet and snow, frequent across the southwest, west and north, where some significant accumulations are possible this evening and overnight. There will be widespread frost with icy stretches on untreated surfaces.
There is the potential for further significant snowfall in places on Thursday.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow/ice warning for Ireland this week.
According the forecasters: “It will be very cold this week with scattered wintry showers, frequent across the southwest, west and north. Some accumulations of snow are expected. There will be widespread frost at night with icy stretches on untreated surfaces.”
There is the possibility of a more significant spell of sleet/snow on Thursday.
The weather warning is valid from 6.00 today (Tuesday, January 29th) until 6.00pm on Saturday (February 2nd).

Meanwhile, Clare County Council has also warning to motorist to take care over the coming days.
A spokesman said: “Clare County Council is urging motorists to slow down during the coming days, particularly during any wintry showers and at night when temperatures are expected to dip to close to or below freezing.
The Local Authority currently has more than 2500 tonnes of salt in Beechpark. There is also a further 405 tonnes of salt available from the TII for national roads should we require it to be collected for this season. Currently we have enough salt for approximately 49 treatments of all planned routes,” the spokesman added.
