Communities across County Clare are benefitting from an improved water supply as a result of significant works carried out by Uisce Éireann in recent months.
Uisce Éireann has replaced more than 3km of old and damaged water mains with new, modern pipes in Ennis, Ennistymon and Creegh, driving down the amount of clean and treated water lost to leakage.
The completed works have taken place along Clon Road, Ennis (600m); Lifford Road, Ennis (250m); in Alva, Creegh (1.3km); and most recently in Ennistymon (1km) to provide a safe and secure water supply for homes and businesses across the heartland of Co. Clare.
Following on from the completion of the works in Ennistymon, Uisce Éireann in partnership with Clare County Council is currently carrying out reinstatement works on the permanent road surface.
Continuing to support the growth of communities by developing critical infrastructure in Co. Clare, Uisce Éireann is also completing leakage reduction efforts in Ballinoosky (670m) with works currently ongoing.
All of these projects will not only ensure the provision of safe drinking water, but they will support sustainable growth and enhance the environment.
Outlining the benefits of the national Leakage Reduction Programme in Co Clare, Jack Cronin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann said: “Many of these old and damaged pipes were prone to bursts and high levels of leakage, causing supply challenges for homes and businesses. Replacing them with modern pipes reduces the amount of drinking water lost through leakage and brings an all-round improvement to the water network for Clare communities.”
Jack added: “Since being involved in the national Leakage Reduction Programme across Clare, I have seen first-hand how efforts to tackle leakage have benefited local communities. These projects have resulted in significant leakage savings providing a more resilient and robust supply of water for local communities.”
The upgrade works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke Construction Ltd.
