Update:
Tuesday, 9.45am – The wind warning will now expire at 6.00pm today (Tuesday) while the Status Yellow rain warning will remain in place until 9.00pm.
11.03pm – Winds continue to increase with latest speeds at Shannon Airport reaching over 75km/h.
If you are driving tonight or tomorrow watch out for debris no the roads.
10.18pm – Winds at Shannon Airport have been gusting as high as 60km/h for the past while.
9.55pm – Status Orange rainfall warning for Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford.
Met Éireann has upgraded the Status Yellow for four counties to Orange level.
Forecasters are warning that very heavy rain tonight and on Tuesday will likely cause further river flooding and surface water flooding. Rainfall totals of 50 to 80mm, higher in mountainous regions.
For now, Clare remains under the original Status Yellow warning.
Earlier: Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow wind and rain warnings for a large part of the country including Clare.
The weather service has warned that southerly winds will reach mean wind speeds of 50 to 65km/h, with gusts of 90 to 110km/h, possibly higher on exposed coasts. Where winds are onshore there is a risk of coastal flooding.
The warning will take effect from 9.00pm on Monday and will remain in place until 6.00am on Wednesday.
Met Éireann is also warning of heavy rain on Monday night and Tuesday coupled with the strong southerly winds. Some river and localised surface flooding possible. Rainfall totals of 30 to 50mm, higher in mountainous regions.
