With two defeats in two games, Clare find themselves in must-win territory if they’re to reach the knockout stages of the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship.
Manager Trish O’Grady is confident defenders Maire McGrath and Laura McMahon will return to the Clare lineup. “You’d be hoping you’d have Maire McGrath back, Laura back they’ll help the cause and they’re two very experienced players, it’ll be more game-time giving to the two that were injured previous to this in Eimear and Aoife, Aoife probably struggled a bit today and that was lack of game-time, Eimear put in a great forty fifty minutes in fairness to her, they’ll all help the situation”.
Clare welcome Limerick to TBC this Saturday as they aim to collect their first win of the Championship against this year’s Munster finalists. O’Grady says younger players on the squad are putting their hand up for selection ahead of Saturday’s game.
“There’s minor players and underage players that are putting up their hands to come in, we introduced Amy Keating there she got two fine points on the board, we introduced Michelle Caulfield and Aine O’Loughlin sixteen years of age, Roisin Begley assisted with a point so that’s all very positive for Clare camogie”.
The Newmarket-on-Fergus woman is realistic that if Clare are to make the knockout stages they must win their remaining games against Limerick, Wexford and Waterford. It’s do or die now for the Banner County according to Clare boss.
“We’ve three games now, we still have to take it a game at a time, if you’re looking at two losses it’s self-evident we’ve three games to play if we want to be in the business end of the championship now we have to actually win our three games”.
