Clare’s footballers will have an extra week’s preparations for the All-Ireland Football 2A qualifier.

The Banner were due to play Laois on July 2 but after it came to light that the O’Moore men used seven subs and in the process broke the rules, a replay has been awarded.

A statement has been released by the GAA this evening. It reads “Following an enquiry form the CCCC arising from the Round 1A Football Qualifier between Laois v Armagh on Saturday June 18, it has been confirmed that one extra substitute was used by Laois in error. CCCC have proposed in accordance with rule, that this game should be replayed on Saturday July 2 at 3.0 in Portlaoise. Laois have accepted this proposal”.

This now means that Colm Collins’ footballers could yet face Armagh. The winners of the July 2nd fixture will play Clare in Cusack Park on July 9/10.

Davy Fitzgerald and the Clare hurlers will welcome Laois to Cusack Park on July 2nd, that game throws-in at 7pm.

Dual-star Podge Collins may yet to have to choose between either code, if the hurlers overcome Laois then there is a possible clash between the rescheduled football qualifier and the second round of the hurling qualifiers.
