The 14th annual Dromineer Literary Festival takes place this weekend, October 6-8.

The evening events take place at Nenagh Arts Centre while the daytime events will be held at Lough Derg Yacht Club, afloat on Lough Derg and in Nenagh Castle, in the heart our busy market town.

In order for this much loved festival to thrive and to continue, it needs local support and audience attendance. The festival is run by a volunteer committee who work tirelessly throughout the year – our reward to see an audience take their seats and enjoy the festival.

There will be two fabulous events organised for the festival finale on Sunday, October 8. For the highly popular event afloat on Lough Derg, we are delighted to have the hugely talented, award-winning author Sara Baume, read and in conversation with Martin Doyle, Books Editor at the Irish Times.

At the end of last month, Sara’s second novel, A Line Made by Walking, was shortlisted for the highly prestigious Goldsmiths Prize. At 33, Sara is the youngest shortlistee in the prize’s history. Previous winners include Kevin Barry, Eimear McBride and Mike McCormick.

The Ku-Ee-Tu, skippered by Teddy Knight and his daughter Edel, will leave the public harbour in Dromineer at 12 noon, Sunday October 8. Booking is essential for this event as places are strictly linited. Please email info@dromineerliteraryfestival.ie If the weather gets up, our Plan B is to hold the event at Lough Derg Yacht Club.

At 4pm on Sunday afternoon, 8 October, Andrew Tierney will talk about his massively acclaimed first book, The Doctor’s Wife is Dead; a Victorian non-fiction drama set in his native north Tipperary during the period of the Great Irish Famine.

This event will take place in the highly atmospheric and recently restored Nenagh Castle, and will be chaired by DLF committee member Margaret Kennedy. We advise everyone to dress warmly. There is no wheelchair access for the castle.
