Thunderstorm warning for Clare

8.50pm – The collision south of Gort on the M18 (southbound) has been clear.

It’s understood that a car lost control and collided with the median crash barrier. The two occupants of the vehicle were assessed at the scene by paramedics but were found to be uninjured.

Units of the fire brigade from Gort and Ennis responded to the incident along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí.

Fire crews implemented emergency traffic management procedures and had to close the road for a short time. The motorway has since been reopened.

7.45pm – Collision reported southbound on the M18 past the on-ramp of Gort. Emergency services are at the scene. It’s understood the collision occurred following a heavy downpour of rain.

7.30pm – Heavy rain and significant surface water reported on sections of the M18 north of Crusheen. Drive with care.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for a large part of the country including Clare.

The weather services is warning of “scattered thunderstorms this evening, with a risk of hail and localised spot flooding.”

The warning affects Leinster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan and the whole of Munster and remains in place until 10 o’clock tonight.
