Right attitude needed from Scariff/Ogonnelloe

It boils down to attitude for Scariff/Ogonnelloe as they prepare for an All-Ireland final clash with Johnstownbridge in Birr according to Jim Minouge.

Selector with the East Clare outfit, Jim has been very impressed with the attitude of the girls. Training is an indicator of what will happen in a competitive match and the signs are positive ahead of Sunday’s showdown. “With the girls now at training they bring a serious workrate and a serious intensity to training and that goes forward to the games”.

Not alone are they doing well in defence and attack but in Minouge’s eyes their workrate is proving to be very influential in recent results. “Defensively we’re very strong at the minute and the last day attacking wise we were very strong putting up a big score and we’ve a good spread of scorers, it’s not just the girls getting the scores it’s an all-round team display, girls getting hooks and blocks and conceding no frees, cutting out their attacks and working on the breaks, it’s really the attitude of the girls and the workrate and intensity they bring to training and forward to games”.

With the majority of their panel having been involved in their All-Ireland final defeat to Myshall three years ago Jim doesn’t think the occasion will be an issue. Regardless of the hype before the game their objective is getting the job done.

“I don’t think it will be any problem, a lot of the girls played in the All-Ireland Final three years ago, a few of the younger girls played for Clare underage. It’s going to be like any other game, we prepare the same way work really hard, it’s just about winning this game. It is an All-Ireland final but for us it’s about going through the game and the process, getting the job done and hopefully at the end of that we’ll be All-Ireland champions”.

In recent training sessions the mood has been very good within the Scariff/Ogonnelloe camp and if they can bring their attitude from the training field to Birr on Sunday at 2:15pm. If they prevail Jim’s theory will certainly be proved correct.
