Woman hospitalised after fall on Kilkee coastline

A woman is recovering in hospital after she was injured in a fall at a popular beauty spot in West Clare this afternoon.

The woman had been visiting the well-known Diamond Rocks near Kilkee when the accident occurred.

The alarm was raised shortly after 2.00pm when emergency services received a report of an incident at Knockroe Point on the popular Kilkee cliff walk. The Diamond Rocks are accessible from the cliff trail by steps.

Watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Kerry mounted and coordinated the rescue operation.

The Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard dispatched volunteers to the area and were met close to the scene by National Ambulance Service paramedics.

As the area is only accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles, paramedics were transported to the location by Coast Guard 4x4s. Emergency crews quickly located the casualty and recovered her by stretcher from the scene to the Coast Guard vehicles above.

The woman was then transported to the waiting ambulance and convey to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. It’s understood she sustained a lower leg injury.
