A body has been recovered from the sea off Loop Head in Co Clare.
The alarm was raised shortly before 10am today when the crew of a fishing boat reported seeing a body in the water about a kilometre from the shore.
The RNLI lifeboat based at Kilrush responded to the alarm and quickly recovered the remains from the water.
The body was recovered and taken to the RNLI station at Kilrush from where it will be transported to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.
The body, which has not been identified, is understood to have been in the water for some time.
Volunteers from the Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard assisted with the operation.
Gardaí at Kilrush are investigating the discovery.
Searches have been continuing in north Clare for a man believed to have fallen to his death from the cliffs near Hags Head on June 8th.
Two other men, believed to have fallen from the Cliffs of Moher and at Loop Head, have not been found despite comprehensive searches.
Two men are also understood to be missing from the north Kerry area.
