A man has been airlifted to hospital after he was pulled from the sea by a group of kayakers in Co Clare this morning.
The alarm was raised at around 10.30am when a body was seen floating in the sea close at Seafield near Quilty.
A group of 10 kayakers had just set out from a nearby slipway when they found the man. They pulled the casualty from the water and raised the alarm. It’s known that some of the kayakers are members of Clare Civil Defence.
It’s understood the kayakers were members of the West of Ireland Sea Kayaking Association (WISKA).
Ambulances from Ennistymon and Ennis responded to the incident along with gardaà and the Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard.
The kayakers recovered the man to the slipway where he was taken into care by paramedics.
The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter had been training in the Loop Head area at the time and reached the scene within minutes.
The man, believed to be in his 60’s, has been airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
