Cratloe’s Naomi Carroll has been named in the Irish Hockey squad for a four match series with Spain taking place in Belfast next week.
Naomi who plays with the Hermes club in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown area of Dublin is one of the twenty two players selected in Graham Shaw’s squad.
A former dual-star with the Clare camogie and ladies football teams, Naomi is concentrating fully on hockey this year.
Both Ireland and Spain sit side by side in the World Rankings, with the Spaniards one spot above the Green Army in fourteenth place. They last met in January with the games played in Valencia where the hosts won two out of three games.
Speaking ahead of next week’s match series, Graham Shaw commented. “We are delighted to welcome Spain to Ireland in their preparation for Rio. It is a great opportunity for us to play in front of a home crowd. With injuries and players unavailable we will make 6 changes from Hawkes Bay. This gives players in a test game environment to showcase their skills and ability therefore strengthening their position within our squad”.
