Gardaí seek witnesses to fatal West Clare road collision

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in West Clare last night.

The incident, involving a van and a cyclist, occurred at around 8:00pm on the N67 Kilrush to Kilkee road at Baunmore between Moyasta and Lisdeen.

National Ambulance Service paramedics; Gardaí and units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Kilkee and Kilrush stations responded to the incident.

The male cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a postmortem examination will take place in due course. The coroner has also been notified.

The road remains closed with local diversions in place. No other injuries were reported at the time.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Anyone who may have been travelling in the area of Baunmore, Kilrush, Co. Clare, on Friday 9th October 2026 between 7:15pm and 8:15pm, and who may have camera footage, including dashcam or mobile phone recordings are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.”
