A Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) has been put in place in an area of West Clare and will remain in effect until October.
The TRA has been implemented to facilitate operations by A-techSYN, which designs and builds unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The purpose of the TRA is to ensure the safety of aircraft operating within and of other air traffic operating in the vicinity of the County Clare coastline in the period cited whilst allowing for Unmanned Aircraft System testing.
Last month, in a significant milestone for the Irish drone industry, A-techSYN, Ireland’s leading developer and manufacturer of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), has successfully obtained its latest UAS Operational Authorisation.
A-techSYN develops and manufactures the CGT-50 VTOL UAV which is designed for diverse applications, including maritime surveys and security operations, providing unparalleled versatility and efficiency.
The CGT-50 VTOL UAV is central to several collaborative projects that demonstrate its potential and versatility. Notably, the GUARD project, aimed at revolutionising maritime surveillance and enhancing Irish defence operations, highlights the strategic importance of the system. This project integrates advanced automated drone technology into defence applications, underscoring the significant impact of UAS in improving national security and operational efficiency by enhancing the reach of the Irish Navy beyond the limitations naval vessels have.
Additionally, in partnership with BlueWise Marine and ATU Galway, the U-AVES project focuses on using unmanned aerial vehicles for maritime ecological surveys, enhancing data collection, and environmental monitoring.
These projects underscore the strategic importance of the CGT-50 VTOL UAV and its potential to transform various industries. The successful implementation of these projects showcases A-techSYN’s ability to leverage cutting-edge technology to meet diverse operational needs ranging from agriculture and infrastructure monitoring to environmental conservation and disaster management.

The Irish Aviation Authority has confirmed that the Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) County Clare Coastline Monday July 8th – Friday Oct 4th 2024
The Irish Aviation Authority in pursuance of Articles 7 & 10 of the Irish Aviation Authority (Rules of theAir) Order, 2019 (S.I. No. 266 of 2019) and in accordance with Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 923/2012, SERA.3145 (Prohibited Areas and Restricted Areas), hereby directs as follows:-
Temporary restriction (Temporary Restricted Area) on the flying of aircraft, rockets as defined in S.I. No.25 of 2023, including Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) as defined in S.I. No. 24 of 2023 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947, shall apply in the vicinity of the County Clare Coastline in the airspace contained within the under mentioned:

52° 48′ 39.19″ N, 009° 54′ 38.25″ W
Arc radius of 28km/15.12nm centred on 52° 46′ 10.85″ N, 009° 30′ 03.76″ W
52° 57′ 43.31″ N, 009° 46′ 06.50″ W
52° 47′ 50.49″ N, 009° 31′ 31.27″ W
Arc radius of 3.5km/1.89nm centred on 52° 46′ 10.85″ N, 009° 30′ 03.76″ W
52° 45′ 05.81″ N, 009° 32′ 36.80″ W
Vertical limits: SFC to 2500FT AMSL
*Duration: The period of the restriction shall be from 1000hrs UTC to 1900hrs UTC
every Monday to Friday from Monday July 8th to Friday October 4th, 2024,
and excluding Bank Holiday Monday August 5th, 2024.
Subject to any decision of the Irish Aviation Authority to the contrary, the airspace within the TRA is restricted to use by aircraft authorised by A-Techsyn Ltd.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems operated in breach of TRA restrictions may be subject to seizure by An Garda Síochána as evidence for potential prosecution and in the interest of aviation safety. Any exemptions, alleviations or permissions, granted to civil general air traffic by the Authority, are not valid within this Temporary Restricted Area during the period cited. State aircraft, aircraft of the Irish Coastguard Service and HEMS Aircraft Operators employed on an operational mission shall be exempt from the restriction
