Planned strike action at Shannon based diamond manufacturer Element Six has been deferred.
Negotiations are continuing between management and workers in an effort to resolve the dispute. Talks took place from Tuesday evening into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
SIPTU members at the plant formerly known as De Beers served notice to management that a strike would take place on Wednesday September 21st (today). Their decision to call a strike came on the back of proposed decisions such as the suggested introduction of shift working in the grit section of Element Six, a redundancy package that the company were set to propose, planned changes in the distribution centre of the plant plus the payment of shift premiums had also disgruntled workers.
Approximately 400 people are employed by the company which has been in Co Clare since 1963, a quarter of its workforce are members of SIPTU.
Talks are now taking place with the Workplace Relations Commission which has resulted in the deferral of the strike.
