An evening of song, poetry and carols from the Irish World Academy in support of Rape Crisis Midwest takes place this Thursday.
Following the success of last years concert the Irish World Academy will once again be transformed into a winter wonderland and this fantastic musical experience is guaranteed to get everyone in the festive spirit with a series of incredible performances and a mulled wine reception.
A number of exceptional artists and ensembles will feature that evening including the Cantoral Chant Ensemble, the BAVAD Gospel Choir directed by Kathleen Turner, the Irish World Academy Choir and many others.
Sean Nós dancer Siobhan Butler and students from MA Irish Traditional Dance Performance, Emily Flack (Canada), Kara O’Brien (USA) and Eibhlín Broderick (Ireland), will also perform. Students from the MA Festive Arts programme will be on hand to help produce the event as part of their module in festival development and production. This MA programme is all about designing and creating exciting events, and they are more than happy to get involved with this very important cause.
Miriam Duffy, Executive Director Rape Crisis Midwest, said “We are so pleased that the Irish World Academy has organised this fantastic concert once again. It was an incredible night last year and we are very much looking forward to it. It not only raises much needed funds but also helps us to raise awareness. This event is very symbolic for Rape Crisis Midwest, as the title of the event – ‘The Darkest Midnight’, reflects the time of year we are facing and also, the feeling of many men and women when they come to us for help – with support and counselling, hope prevails and the dawn arrives.
Dr. Sandra Joyce, Director of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance added “We are absolutely delighted to support the important work of Rape Crisis Midwest again this year with a concert showcasing the vocal and musical talent of our students, faculty and alumni. This event is an example of our continued commitment to community outreach and civic engagement”
All proceeds from the event will go towards the provision of services at Rape Crisis Midwest and all artists on the evening will provide their services free of charge. Tickets can be purchased from the University Concert Hall box office on 061 331549 or www.uch.ie
