A festival to celebrate the life & Legacy of the great Pecker Dunne take place at St Peter’s Square in Wexford on Saturday, April 5th.
Wexford town is set to host the inaugural Pecker Dunne Festival in honour of one of Ireland’s greatest balladeers with well loved songs including ‘Sullivan’s John’, Tinker’s Lullaby’, ‘Portlaoise Jail’ and the ode to his childhood home, ‘Wexford Town’.
Born in Castlebar Co. Mayo, Pecker travelled the length and breath of Ireland and across the world performing before eventually settling in Killimer, Co Clare with his wife and four children.
The open air family friendly festival will honour the life and legacy of Pecker with a stellar line up of talented musicians and singers including his son Stephen Dunne, James Gallagher, Wexford Traditional Singing Group, James & Alice McIntyre, Aoife Banville & many more.
There will be an exhibition of travelling life and customs including a barrel top wagon and storytelling.
“Pecker’s mother was a Wexford woman and he loved his time in Wexford, culminating in his song ‘Wexford Town’, so it’s only appropriate that we honour Pecker with a musical celebration. The one day festival is the first of its kind and the excitement is really building here in Co. Wexford” said Organising Festival Committee member and Wexford Councillor Tom Forde. This one day event is kindly supported by Wexford County Council.
The Festival will open with “Memories of Pecker” storytelling at 2pm followed by live music on stage all day from 3.30pm.
