A special celebration of seafood to mark the Galway, West of Ireland 2018 European Region of Gastronomy (Galway ERoG), awaits visitors to the long-standing traditional sailing festival Cruinniú na mBád.
The event will take place in the picturesque harbour village of Kinvara, Co Galway this weekend.
Kinvara community group Cuan Beo will host a Galway, West of Ireland 2018 European Region of Gastronomy stage in its marquee where an eclectic line-up of seafood cooking demonstrations will take place alongside expert talks by guest speakers.
Programme Coordinator for Galway ERoG, Elaine Donohue, said, “Cuan Beo is working tirelessly to educate us all on the importance of our water quality, and it is great to see the linkages with research and seafood-cooking taking place in a practical showcase at this long-standing festival.”
An exciting line-up of chefs from local restaurants in Kinvara and the surrounding catchment area of south Galway and north Clare will create signature seafood dishes on the Galway ERoG Stage on the two days around the theme of ‘Creating simple succulent dishes using locally sourced sustainable seafood’. Chefs representing The Pier Head, Keogh’s, The Merriman Hotel, Moran’s Oyster Cottage, Linnane’s Lobster Bar, ISHKA, Fox’s, Enoteca Il Molo and Gregan’s Castle are among those who will be giving the cooking demonstrations and handing out samples of their favourite dishes featuring local seafood for visitors to enjoy.
In tandem with the seafood cooking demonstrations, a second stage in the Cuan Beo marquee will welcome speakers, ranging from chefs and authors to academics and engineers, who will address the theme of ‘Linking the land with the sea – A holistic approach to creating a sustainable future for Galway Bay’. Topics will vary from plastics pollution and sea trout to oysters and wild seafood.
The Cruinniú na mBád festival is taking place in Kinvara, Co Galway on the weekend of August 10th to 12th. The Galway ERoG cooking demonstrations and talks will begin at 12.30pm on both Saturday the 11th of August and Sunday the 12th of August in the Cuan Beo marquee.
