Doolin Coast Guard responds to medical emergency

A man has been taken to hospital after he was reported to have collapsed on a beach in North Clare this afternoon.

The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard was alerted and requested to respond to the incident as the nearest ambulance was said to be over 30 minutes away.

Coast Guard volunteers made their to the scene and located the casualty at the northern end of the beach at Lahinch close to where the Inagh River enters the sea.

The Coast Guard team remained with the man until an ambulance arrived. It’s understood that the ambulance had to be dispatched from Limerick.

The casualty was later assisted to the waiting ambulance by Coast Guard personnel before he was taken to hospital for treatment.
