An early morning transatlantic flight diverted to Shannon Airport this morning after the crew declared a medical emergency over the North Atlantic.
Air Transat flight TSC-434 was travelling from Montreal in Canada to the French city Marseille at the time. The flight was about 30 minutes west of Ireland when the crew advised air traffic controllers of their situation and that they wished to divert to Shannon.
Authorities and ground services at Shannon Airport were advised of the unscheduled arrival while the National Ambulance Service was also alerted and requested to mobilise resources to the airport.
The Airbus A330-200 jet landed at Shannon shortly after 7.30am and was met at the terminal by airport staff and ambulance paramedics.
The male passenger was assessed at the scene before being removed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
The flight continued its journey to Marseille at 9.30am.
