One person injured in M18 collision

One person has been taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision on the M18.

The crash occurred shortly after 4.00pm on the southbound lanes between the Barefield and Tulla Road interchanges.

It appears one vehicle smashed into the rear of another car. The female driver of the car in front was taken to hospital complaining of back pain. The male driver of the second vehicle was unhurt.

The crew of a Lifeline private ambulance stopped to assist the injured woman and cared for her in the back of their vehicle until HSE ambulances arrived at the scene.

Four units of the fire brigade along with gardaí from Ennis also attended the incident.

Traffic was reduced to a single lane for almost two hours before the crashed cars were finally removed from the scene.

The woman, is not believed to be seriously injured, was removed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment while Gardaí from Ennis are investigating the cause of the collision.
