Sunday, 10.05pm – Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for Co Clare.

The weather service has said: “Storm Franklin will cause gale force westerly winds with severe and damaging gusts. These winds combined with very high seas will lead to wave overtopping, which may result in coastal flooding.”

The warning comes into effect at midday and remain in place until midnight tonight.

A number of Status Yellow weather warnings will remain in place for Clare until at least Monday as Storm Franklin bears down on the country.

In the aftermath of Storms Dudley and Eunice, weather in Clare remains unsettled with strong winds, snow and ice continuing to affect the county.

A Status Yellow wind warning for Clare also remains in place while an Orange warning has been issued for the county coast.

Met Éireann has warned that very strong southwesterly winds and some severe gusts are expected on Sunday morning, veering west to northwest on Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning.

Strong winds, surge and phenomenal waves may lead to wave overtopping particularly at times of high water, and coastal flooding is possible along coasts.

A Met Éireann Status Yellow snow and ice warning for all of Ireland including Clare will stay in place until 9.00am on Monday. The weather service says there may be falls of sleet and snow today with accumulations in some areas and icy stretches leading to hazardous driving conditions.

One person escaped serious injury on Friday night after their car lost control and collided with the dividing crash barrier on the M18 at junction 14, Barfield. The northbound lanes of the motorway were closed for about 40 minutes while emergency services dealt with the incident.
