The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard was tasked this afternoon to assist the skipper of a boat that got into difficulty on Lough Derg.
The volunteer team was alerted at 1.45pm by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Co Kerry. It was reported that a 32-foot vessel, with four persons on board, had experienced engine difficulty north of Killaloe.
A boat crew launched at 2.00pm and were alongside the casualty vessel within minutes. All four occupants on board were safe and well and wearing life jackets.
The vessel had experienced engine difficulty and was drifting into shallow waters. The boat was taken on tow back to Marina Village Killaloe where a shore team assisted in the safe mooring of the vessel.
