The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard was called out tonight to assist two adults and two children on board a boat that had lost power on Lough Derg.
The skipper of the powerboat raised the alarm shortly before 8.00pm by calling the Irish Coast Guard marine rescue coordination centre in Kerry.
The powerboat was reported to have lost engine power around off Derry Castle around 3km North of Killaloe.
A Coast Guard boat crew responded the Pier Head in Killaloe and quickly located the casualty vessel. Once alongside, a Coast Guard volunteer crew member was transferred to the vessel to ensure everyone on board was alright.
The powerboat was taken under tow towards safety in Killaloe however the vessel’s engine was restarted and the skipper was able to continue under the boat’s own power.
The Coast Guard rescue crew remained with the casualty vessel until it was safely moored in Killaloe at 9.05pm at which point the crew was stood down.
