Shannon residents are being encouraged to complete a community energy survey & book a one-to-one Energy Clinic following a well-attended meeting to launch work on the town’s Energy Master Plan.
The Shannon Town Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) launch took place on Wednesday, 14th October, with a full house for a session facilitated by Colm Garvey of Clare Energy Agency.
Supported by Clare Local Development Company (CLDC) & the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the SEC programme brings communities together to identify ways to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy costs & explore renewable energy options.
The next step is to hear from people locally. Residents are being asked to complete an online survey to help build a picture of energy use & needs in the community. One-to-one Energy Clinic appointments are also available.
Given Shannon’s size, the work is being approached in two parts. A second Sustainable Energy Community is planned in the coming weeks to help ensure the town’s varied housing stock, community buildings & small businesses are represented.
Further opportunities to get involved are being developed, including practical energy information sessions & a session on the Warmer Homes Scheme.
The Shannon project also offers a starting point for other towns & communities across Clare interested in taking action on energy: bring people together, find out what is needed locally & use that information to develop a community plan.
