Captain Sean Doherty got the all-important goal to send the Ennis club through to the quarter-finals. He scored from close range in the final twenty five minutes to put them on their way.

At half-time both sides were deadlocked with Avenue creating the bulk of chances and dominating possession. Their perseverance paid off with Doherty who receives regular game-time with the club’s A team finishing to the net.

They now add the Waterford side to the list of clubs they have conquered having already beaten Shannon Town and Bridge Utd. Avenue are the only Clare club remaining in the competition and will be looking to the likes of Doherty, Jamie Roche, Ikem Ugwueru and Cathal Darcy to keep their winning cup run intact.
