The search for an elderly man missing in North Clare since last week has been stood down following the discovery a body this afternoon.
Thomas Connole (82) was reported missing from his home at Carrowmanagh North, Kilshanny on Friday.
GardaĆ and Clare Civil Defence volunteers mounted an initial search which was further stepped up on Saturday.
Civil Defence units from Mayo, Galway and Limerick were drafted into to assist their Clare colleagues while Irish Coast Guard volunteers from nearby Doolin were also deployed.
The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, also took part in the search on Saturday.
The Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) was also requested to dispatch teams to assist in the search while a large number of locals, friends and family also helped during the operation.
The search covered a wide area including open fields, bogland and dense forestry.
GardaĆ had issued a public appeal for assistance in tracing the manās whereabouts.
This afternoon, a Coast Guard land search team from Doolin located a body. The body was recovered from the scene by Coast Guard and Clare Civil Defence personnel and removed to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem examination is expected to be carried out.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed this evening: ā Following the discovery of a body of a male, the missing person appeal in respect of Thomas Connole (82), who was reported missing from Carrowmanagh North, Kilshanny, Co. Clare since Friday 26th June 2026, has been stood down.
