The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter has completed a long-range medical evacuation (Medevac) from a vessel off the west coast this evening.
Rescue 115 was tasked shortly before 6.00pm and requested to proceed to meet a vessel 125 nautical miles (231 kilometres) west of Loop Head. It took the helicopter about and hour and fifteen minutes to reach the location.
The casualty was winched aboard the helicopter and flown to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. Rescue 115 landed at UHL shortly after 9.10pm.
The operation was coordinated by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.
Meanwhile, Rescue 115 crews completed three other medical evacuations from the Aran Islands on Monday. Two patients were airlifted from Inis Mór in separate operations in the early hours of the morning and this afternoon.
The third tasking for Rescue 115 was to Inis OÃrr. All three patients were airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
