TUS seeks external members for Governing Body

The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has commenced the process of appointing six persons to the TUS Governing Body as external members and is seeking expressions of interest from suitable candidates; the TUS Governing Body will comprise 19 members in total.

Established on October 1, 2021, TUS stands as Ireland’s third technological university, boasting six campuses strategically located across the Midlands and Midwest; its seventh campus, Coonagh in Co. Limerick, is set to open in early 2024.

As a technological university, TUS aims to significantly enhance the accessibility and availability of higher education in regions with historically low tertiary education attainment.

TUS Governing Body Chairperson Josephine Feehily emphasised the important role the governing body plays, especially in a new university.

“The TUS Governing Body serves as the university board, holding a spectrum of important statutory functions and corporate governance responsibilities. Successful candidates will collaborate with existing members and myself, as chairperson, to collectively lead the strategic direction of TUS, oversee performance and compliance with statutory responsibilities.

“We are seeking high-calibre candidates with strong independent judgment and objective scrutiny, to help guide TUS through this transformative phase as it continues to establish itself as a new technological university with a strong mandate for regional social and economic development

TUS President Prof. Vincent Cunnane underscored the pivotal role the TUS Governing Body will play in realising the technological university’s potential, outlining its crucial oversight and strategic development responsibilities in advancing TUS’s agenda for economic prosperity and social cohesion in the Midlands and Midwest.

“The TUS Governing Body’s oversight and direction will be instrumental as TUS actively seeks to address skills gaps in the regions, foster human capital, and provide stakeholders with unprecedented opportunities in research, innovation, and access pathways previously unavailable,” he said.

It is intended that new external members will be appointed with effect from March 30, 2024, with terms of office of up to four years.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit applications via tus.ie and stateboards.ie.
