A major search of the River Shannon was carried out in the Killaloe/Ballina area last night following reports that a person missing locally.
The alarm was raised shortly before 10.00pm when GardaĆ received reports that a person may have entered the water somewhere in the Ballina/Killaloe area.
The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard quickly launched two boats and dispatched another search time by road.
The Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter was also tasked to assist in the search.
Coast Guard boat crews conducted searches from Pier Head south of Killaloe Bridge towards Parteen Weir while shore teams carried out searches along all jetties and piers in the area as well as any moored vessels.
Rescue 115 was on scene within minutes of the alarm been raised and carried out searches North and south of the Killaloe bridges.
At 11.35pm all crews were stood down following confirmation from An Garda SĆochĆ”na that the person was located safe and well.
The operation was coordinated by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.
