Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Cooney has urged households across County Clare to consider applying for government-backed home energy upgrade grants, as new figures show a sharp rise in demand for the supports.
More than 29,000 applications for energy upgrade grants were processed nationwide in the first three months of 2026, representing a 96% increase on the same period last year.
Deputy Cooney said homeowners should examine the range of grants available, which cover measures such as attic and wall insulation, new windows and doors, heat pumps and solar panels.
He said the upgrades can reduce energy bills and improve comfort, particularly as households continue to face high energy costs.
Figures show significant increases across several schemes, including applications for attic insulation, cavity wall insulation, heat pumps, solar panels and window and door upgrades.
More than 1,500 homes at risk of energy poverty were also upgraded under the Warmer Homes Scheme by the end of March, with an average cost of €31,000 per home.
The scheme provides free energy efficiency upgrades to eligible households, including those in receipt of Fuel Allowance. Supports can include insulation, draught-proofing, energy-efficient lighting and, in some cases, new heating systems and windows.
Grants currently available include:
- Attic insulation: up to €2,000 (€2,500 for first-time buyers)
- Wall insulation: up to €8,000
- Windows: up to €4,000 / Doors: up to €1,600
- Heat pump system: up to €12,500
- Heating controls: up to €700
- Solar PV: up to €1,800
- Solar thermal (hot water): up to €1,200
Deputy Cooney said the scheme remains one of the most important supports available for vulnerable households and encouraged anyone who may qualify to seek further information.
He added that his office is available to assist constituents in accessing the grants and navigating the application process.
