Post-Morton due on body of man found in East Clare

Gardaí are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in East Clare early today.

Gardaí were called to a location in Mountshannon at around 4.00am when a man in his 50s was discovered unresponsive and the alarm was raised.

Gardaí attended the scene and also alerted the National Ambulance Service. Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Scarriff station were also mobilised to the incident.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene and the area was preserved by Gardaí for a technical examination.

The circumstances of the man’s death are being investigated however it’s understood that the man may have suffered a medical episode or possibly a fall.

It’s believed he had been overnighting in a campervan in the popular lakeside area at the time.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to an incident where a male was found deceased in Mountshannonon Co. Clare on Thursday 28th May, 2026 at approximately 4:00am.

The body of the male (aged in his 50s) was removed from the scene to University Hospital Limerick .

A post-mortem examination is due to take place, which will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”
