Four music venues in Clare are set to benefit from funding under the Grassroots Music Venues Support Scheme, according to Fine Gael TD Joe Cooney.
Following a successful pilot scheme in 2025, funding for the initiative has increased to €1 million this year to support grassroots venues and help showcase emerging musicians and performers across Ireland.
Sixty venues nationwide have been approved for funding of up to €20,000 under the 2026 scheme, up from 34 venues last year. The scheme also supports venues promoting Irish comedy and emerging comedians.
The Clare venues receiving funding are The Attic in Doolin, Kenny’s in Lahinch and Pot Duggans in Ennistymon, which will each receive €20,000, while The Greyhound in Kilkee will receive €7,900.
Deputy Cooney said the investment would provide an important boost for local venues and young performers.
“Grassroots music venues play a hugely important role in supporting emerging artists and giving musicians a platform to perform in front of live audiences,” he said.
“This increased funding will help venues across Clare continue to showcase local talent and support musicians who are starting out in their careers. It is a great opportunity for young artists in Clare to gain valuable experience and exposure while performing in their own communities.”
Fine Gael Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan said grassroots venues are central to developing new talent within the live performance sector.
“Our grassroots venues are vital in nurturing emerging artists and giving them the opportunity to hone their talents,” Minister O’Donovan said. It is important that we recognise the contribution these venues make to the live performance industry, particularly given the challenges they face.
“I look forward to seeing the range of talent and performances that will reach new audiences as a result of this funding in the months ahead.”
