A body has been has been recovered during a search in Co Clare.
The discovery was made this morning by volunteers from the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard.
The alarm was first raised at around 3.30 on Saturday afternoon when a body was spotted in the sea off the Cliffs of Moher. Conditions at the time were too rough to launch a rescue boat and the search was called off as darkness fell.
A follow-up search on Sunday, which also involved the Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat and Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, failed to locate the body which was believed to have slipped beneath the waves.
Coast Guard personnel monitored weather conditions, tides and currents in the hope of estimating where the body might resurface.
Soon after the search resumed this morning, a Coast Guard land search team, accompanied by Gardaí, located a body on the shoreline close to Doolin village.
The body was recovered to Doolin Coast Guard station and later to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will be carried out.
The body is believed to be that of a Polish national in her 30’s.
