Caitríona Lucas to be honoured in Ennistymon

Irish Coast Guard volunteer Caitríona Lucas will be remembered tonight at a special event in Ennistymon.

The Clare Association, Dublin – Muintir an Chláir – will honour Caitríona with their  Clareperson of the Year award for her “outstanding contribution to communities in Co. Clare and beyond.”

This will be the first time that the Clare Association in Dublin will make a posthumous award. Caitríona’s husband Bernard, also a Coast Guard volunteer, will accept the award.

Doolin Coast Guard member and mother-of-two Caitríona died while taking part in a search for a missing man in Kilkee on September 12th last. The boat, carrying Caitríona and two colleagues from the Kilkee unit of the service, capsized tossing all three into the sea.

The Clare Association Dublin Annual Dinner and Clare Person of the Year award presentation will be held the Falls Hotel Ennistymon at 7:30pm tonight.

Tomorrow, at 11am in Ennistymon Church, Bishop of Killaloe, Bishop Fintan Monahan patron of the association, Fr. Des Forde C.C. and the associations Chaplin Fr. Finbar Neylon will con-celebrate a remembrance mass for Caitriona Lucas and all are welcome.

Meanwhile, at Ennistymon Library where Caitríona worked as a librarian, a special event will be held in memory of their late colleague.

Artist and storyteller Wayne O’Connor will reimagine some favourite Roald Dahl stories while children will complete Mr Fox masks a project Caitríona had been involved in and had been left unfinished by her untimely death.
