Coast Guard and NAS assist ill woman in Kilkee

The Irish Coast Guard and National Ambulance Service (NAS) were tasked this afternoon to assist an elderly person who was reported to have fallen ill.

The alarm was raised shortly after 2.00pm when emergency services received a report of an incident at Knockroe Point on the popular Kilkee cliff walk.

The National Ambulance Service emergency operations centre dispatched medical resources to the scene while watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia in Kerry tasked the local Coast Guard unit.

Kilkee Coast Guard volunteers made their way to the location and were able to use their 4×4 vehicles to access the area. The location is not accessible by road ambulance.

A local off-duty first responder also made his way to the incident and was transported by Coast Guard personnel to the scene. A National Ambulance Service advanced paramedic was also conveyed from their vehicle to the scene by Coast Guard 4×4.

Once the patient was assessed and treated at the scene, she was then transported by Coast Guard vehicle to the nearby carpark and handed into the care of ambulance paramedics.

Earlier this morning, Coast Guard and ambulance personnel responded to an incident at the same location. A woman who had had been visiting the well-known Diamond Rocks near Kilkee was injured when she suffered a fall.

She was safely recovered from the location and transported to hospital for treatment.
