Man seriously injured in East Clare road collision

A man in his 40s is undergoing treatment in hospital for serious injuries sustained in a road traffic collision in East Clare late last night.

The single-vehicle incident occurred shortly before midnight on the R352 at Ballinahinch close to Lough Brigid.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Scarriff station responded to the incident along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí.

Gardaí have confirmed that the sole occupant of the car, a man in his 40s, was brought by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

The road remains closed between Ballinahinch Cross and the junction of the R352 with the L8211 at Kilnoe. Traffic is being diverted via alternative routes.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area of the R352 at Ballynahinch, Bodyke between 11:00pm and midnight on Sunday 23rd August, 2026 are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
