Rescue 115 on mission off south west coast

The casualty has been airlifted to Tralee General Hospital for treatment. The man is understood to have sustained internal injuries.

Earlier:

The Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter is undertaking a mission to airlift an injured seaman from a vessel off the south west coast.

The man was injured on board a trawler around 100 kms west of Co Kerry.

Rescue 115 was expected to reach the scene shortly after 3.00pm when the casualty will be winched on board and flown to hospital.

Once assessed by the helicopter’s paramedic, a decision will be made on which facility the injured man will be flown to.

The mission is being coordinated by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard marine rescue sub centre (MRSC) on Valentia Island in Kerry.
