Update:
A body has been recovered during the search for a missing man in Borrisokane. The discovery was made on Friday evening by divers from the Garda Water Unit.
Volunteers from Killaloe Coast Guard and Tipperary Civil Defence as well as local Gardaí assisted with the recovery operation.
The search, which began on Monday night, has been stood down.
Earlier: Members of the Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard have resumed the search for a 63-year-old Tipperary man not seen since Monday evening.
Malachy (Mal) Brennan from Borrisokane was last seen at around 6.00pm on Monday in the area of a local park in the town. When he didn’t return home that evening, his family raised the alarm and a search mounted.
Gardaí carried out an initial search of the town and local area while Nenagh Ormond Search and Rescue Unit was requested to join the effort at around midnight. Team members searched through the night but found no trace of Mr Brennan.
Volunteers from Tipperary Civil Defence, including their K-9 unit, along with members of the Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard joined the search early on Tuesday. Borrisokane fire service has also been involved in the operation.
Civil Defence divers, members of the Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club’s search and recovery unit as well as Killaloe Ballina Search and Recovery were also involved in the daily searches.
Locals and family members are also assisting in the operation which is being coordinated by Gardaí from Borrisokane and Nenagh.
The effort is being coordinated from a local community hall where locals have been bringing food to feed search teams.
Volunteers and locals have been searching lands, parks, walkways and roadways in an effort to locate the man. Several searches of a local river and streams has been carried out while the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, has also been involved.
A garda spokesman said: “When last seen, Malachy was wearing dark trousers, dark jacket and a dark woolly hat. Anyone who may have seen Malachy or knows anything in relation to his whereabouts is asked to contact Nenagh Garda station on 067 50430; the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
A ‘Bring Mal home’ public meeting point has been set up at a local business in the town.
