Shannon Group – operators of Shannon Airport, Shannon Heritage and Shannon Commercial Properties – has welcomed the announcement by An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD that the planning process for the M20 is to get underway and that it is to be included in the National Investment Plan.
Responding to the announcement made by Mr Varadkar at a Cork Chamber breakfast briefing event this morning, Shannon Group CEO Matthew Thomas said: “The M20 is one of the key pieces of infrastructure required to help create effective regional development on this island and the announcement today by An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is a very positive step in that direction.
“Once complete, the motorway will link the country’s second, third and fourth cities – Cork, Limerick and Galway – and we look forward, through our business units to working with all stakeholders across this Atlantic economic corridor to maximising the opportunity that this motorway will present.”
Said Shannon Group Chairman Rose Hynes: “The M20 motorway is a hugely significant piece of infrastructure for the regions. It will improve connectivity between the regions, which will be good for business and good for tourism. It will be an opportunity for greater collaboration and economic development.”
