Lahinch native, Pat Conway, is currently in training for the annual Lahinch to Liscannor Swim. Pat started this swim way back in 1972 and has organised, fundraised and swam it for the past 49 years.
Following on from the announcement of a scheme to provide up to €35m to local authorities to rejuvenate Ireland’s public marine infrastructure, Minister Charlie McConalogue T.D. has announced the approval of €32.7m in funding for 110 projects around the Irish coast which will fund projects worth over €40m in total.
The scattered showers and strong winds did not take from the energy and positivity emanating from those who gathered on Liscannor harbour on Friday morning, as the sod was turned on the new wastewater treatment plant for the village and its community.
Works to end the long running practice of discharging raw sewage into Liscannor Bay are due to get underway in the coming months following the appointment of a contractor to construct a new wastewater treatment plant.
