Tributes paid to Irishman killed in road collision in England

The family of an Irishman killed in a road traffic collision in England last weekend have paid tribute to him.

Forty-six year old Jonathan Kenny, who had been living in Cambridgeshire, passed away at the scene of the multi-vehicle crash in Hertfordshire early last Saturday morning. A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

Mr Kenny, formerly of Cluain Áirne in Shannon, Co Clare is understood to have been living in England for a number of years.

Emergency services responded to reports of a collision involving three vehicles, an Audi, a Porsche and a Nissan on the A10 Buntingford Bypass in Hertfordshire, England. The fatal collision occurred at around 6.30am last Saturday.

Hertfordshire Police later confirmed: “Sadly, the driver of the Audi passed away at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.”

A woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries as a precautionary measure.

Police have confirmed that a man, aged in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and causing death by dangerous driving.

Sergeant Nicholas Kane from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this very difficult time. We are in the early stages of our investigation and are working to establish the full circumstances of the collision.”

In a statement today, Jonathan’s family said: “Jonathan was a great man with an amazing heart, who influenced many that encountered him. He was kind-hearted, inspiring, and encouraging every chance he could.

“Jonathan will be remembered with love always by his heartbroken parents, siblings, extended family and a wide circle of friends. Words cannot sum up just how special he was to us all. We will forever miss his love, sense of humour and presence. He will forever remain in our hearts.”

Mr Kenny’s funeral arrangements will be confirmed at a later date.

Jonathan is survived by his heartbroken parents, Denis and Ann, Shannonvale, Old Cratloe Road, Limerick, his siblings Donough, Shane, Ryan, Jeffrey, Frank and Carol, his partner Deanna, ex-wife Grace, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousin and a wide circle of friends.
